There’s an interesting parallel between how hemp-derived CBD works and how CBD-rich hemp is ideally grown.
A Brief Overview of How CBD Works
Cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system (or “ECS”) as ligands, binding directly or indirectly to ECS receptors and acting like chemical messengers to turn on or turn off physiological signaling. The purpose of the ECS is whole-body homeostasis, or a state of balance between interdependent elements. Plant-derived phytocannabinoids like CBD are thought to mimic the body’s natural endocannabinoids by temporarily “filling in” on these signaling duties.
How CBD-Rich Hemp is Ideally Grown
In a similar vein, our CBD-rich hemp is grown within a cultivation system that believes each of its parts is integral to the ideal state of the whole operation, with goals of optimal conditions for each part and ecological harmony between them. For example, along the lines of “you are what you eat,” healthy, nutrient-rich soil logically translates to healthier plants with better yields. Another example is using predator insects for pest control rather than pesticides, which may affect the health of the soil, plant or other elements of the system. Zero-waste practices like composting plant waste complement the biodynamic farming practices used to grow our hemp.
What to Look For
No matter what CBD products you choose, we want you to feel informed and knowledgeable about what to look for. We recommend asking where the plants are grown, whether they are organically grown without pesticides and what cultivation methods are being used (if sustainable farming matters to you).
